Community Building

We know how difficult being in a new country can be, which is why we work hard to assist our community members through providing valuable connections and health and social resources.

Current Programs & Events

To ensure the health and safety of our staff and community members, we are pleased to continue offering virtual services. Mental Health Counseling, Social Services, and Adult Literacy classes will continue to be offered both in-person and online or by phone as permitted by HIPAA privacy guidelines.

During this time, we encourage community members to call us at (212) 256-9036 with any questions. Our phone lines are open between Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM to serve you. We will continue to offer vital services to the extent possible through our hotline. Community members with existing appointments will receive a call from our team regarding alternative arrangements.

Safety Initiatives

In light of the recent increase in anti-Asian hate crimes and other forms of interpersonal violence in our community, we are offering several initiatives to increase public safety. If you have any questions or want more information, please reach out to safety@amphsonline.org.

Safe Zones

We are partnering with local businesses, non-profit organizations, and faith based centers to create a safety network in Sunset Park. These institutions will provide free safety resources to customers and visitors. Our Safe Zones partners have been trained in bystander intervention and de-escalation and will be marked with a poster in the window. Visit these spaces for free safety resources, or if you ever need a safe space while traveling through the neighborhood.

Safety Trainings

We offer free trainings on physical self-defense, bystander intervention, verbal de-escalation, and first aid techniques. We also distribute safety equipment (e.g. safety whistles) and resources at these trainings. These trainings serve as a resource for community members to equip themselves with the skills they need in order to keep themselves and others safe from potential danger.

View the event calendar to find information on upcoming trainings.

Safe Walks

We are currently in the process of implementing a neighborhood safety initiative called Safe Walks. RaisingHealth volunteers who have been trained in bystander intervention and de-escalation will walk around the neighborhood at designated times to serve as an additional resource for community members. You may approach these volunteers for help if you feel unsafe or identify a concerning situation in the neighborhood.

Safe Rides

If you feel unsafe using public transportation or walking around the neighborhood, you can also request to arrange a free Uber ride here. Depending on the request, you will either receive a $40 Uber voucher code or have a ride arranged on your behalf. Rides are first come first serve until funds run out. We especially encourage individuals who are at higher risk of being targeted for attacks to apply.

Sunset Park Emergency Response Network

The Sunset Park Emergency Response Network is a coalition of community based organizations, non-profits, healthcare providers, and other institutions that are working to improve the health and safety of Sunset Park. The aim of this initiative is to bring these organizations together so that we can identify gaps and better coordinate our services. During times of crisis, the network will join forces to gather and distribute resources to our community. If you are a member of an organization that would be interested in joining the Sunset Park Emergency network, please reach out to safety@amphsonline.org.

Community Mural Project

We have partnered with local artists to provide local businesses, non-profits, and other institutions with free mural installations. These murals aim to make Sunset Park more visually appealing and increase foot traffic, revitalizing small businesses and making the neighborhood feel more safe and welcoming to our residents.
